This is what I'd call a gift sighting, especially given my fondness for older smokers. I was going into the convenience store for my morning coffee, and as I approached the door a 45-50ish lady was exiting the store. I guess it must be a lifetime of observing, but my SMOKER! alarm went off bigtime. She had very short (almost crewcut) light blond hair, stylishly business dressed. But mainly that "smoker look" I love, even though I'm not sure I can describe it--hardened features, deep-set eyes (know what I mean?).
Anyway, I quickly think to myself, too bad, I guess I won't get to see her smoke, and pretty much forget about it as I go in and get coffee.
So, I come out and head to the car and, lo and behold, she hasn't left yet and she's parked right next to me, sitting in the drivers seat, talking on the phone and smoking a Marlboro 100 (I was close enough to spot the gold stripes on the cork tip) with all window rolled up! She finishes her phone call and then dangles her cigarette as she messes with papers or something in the car. Then she gets out, cigarette still in her lips and walks to the back and opens the tailgate to deal with whatever's in the back of the vehicle, cigarette still in her lips all the time.
About then I need to get going, thinking to myself what a great day-starter that was!
