Great story! I hope all went well.
I can't match that but I was reminded of something that happened years ago. When I was in my late teens I would drive my mom to shop, and this time she had gone to a supermarket. I stayed in the car in the lot. I don't recall if I was smoking in secret or out in the open at that point, but regardless, I rolled the windows down and started to smoke while sitting in the car.
In the spot opposite and one to the right was a girl about my age sitting in the passenger seat of that car. She lit up as well and we watched each other as we smoked. It was the coolest thing for me at the time, and shows how common it was for young people to smoke back then. If I had any nerve I would have gone over and talked to her, but of course I had no self-confidence so just let it pass. A missed opportunity for sure.
