There are a lot of female cops now but they cannot smoke on duty. Twenty five years ago or so, a female cop gave me a ticket for speeding. It was in a big city municipal court. The arresting officer was smoking a pipe. The judge told the woman to not smoke in the courtroom. I won the case. I suspect the woman thought she had to prove she belonged in a job usually limited to men. Now women cops are commonplace but smoking is not.
