Who would have thought she smoked?
Posted by ILSL on July 10, 2007, 17:22:10, in reply to "Re: new dynamic" Here's an old sighting from 20 years ago. I had girlfriend who smoked Merit regular. When she wanted to, according to her, not because she had to. She made reasonably long drags and holds usually followed by combo exhales. Anyway, she was temping in the office of an accountant who invited her to a company social at his home. I had the privilege of escorting her. The accountant's wife met us with a pack of Merit menthol in her hands. She smoked these steadily throughout the evening. She was an attractive lady with two good-looking twin daughters. Shapely with long curly hair. They were college students and one had a boyfriend in tow. Both girls puffed MLs like crazy. I never saw the father smoke that evening. Later, I ask J if he smoked and she said she had never seen him smoke at the office. I realize this is old but its was a pleasant memory for me. I saw several smoking women today but didn't have time to observe very closely. When I see something really interesting I will post. --Previous Message--

Well, my observaions may not be statistically rigorous. And considering the interest of the contributors to this board, we may tend to look past the male smokers. Anecdotal though it is, other people, both men and women, have told me they too see more women than men smoking by a discernible margin. And of course, I don't know who all smokes in the privacy of their homes. Or if female social smokers, whom we would see, report themselves as non-smokers.
: Sounds like Florida is a
: great place to be a
: smoking fetisher.
: Statistically, males
: young and old are still
: more likely to be
: smokers, but there may
: be an issue of
: underreporting by women
: here because it
: certainly seems like
: more young ladies are
: smoking than younger
: men. I'm not seeing a
: divide quite as extreme
: in the Upper Midwest was
: what you're seeing
: though.

: I discovered this board
: about a week ago (and
: also Late Bloomer
: Smokers Board). I read
: everything. My favorite
: posts are the
: mother/daughter
: sightings. Jennifer and
: Donna over on Late
: Bloomers are smoking
: moms (non-smoking
: husbands) who are
: dealing with teenage
: duaghters taking up the
: habit. My teenage
: daughter tells me lots
: of girls at her school
: smoke but only few of
: the boys. Is there some
: kind of social dynamic
: happening here? Women
: smoking more - men
: smoking much less. Is
: smoking becoming a
: normative female
: behavior? Mothers and
: daughters bonding.
: Young career women
: impacting every area of
: our economic and
: political life. Around
: here I see many career
: women and their
: househusband spouses.
:
: BTW, here is Florida. I
: agree with Moejoe40 that
: we are blessed with many
: smoking women in this
: region of the country.
: Its great. When I go to
: an upscale restaurant, I
: see many well-to-do
: women smoking on the
: verandas.
:
: I was at an open air
: restaurant recently. At
: the table next to me a
: man, woman and boy. The
: woman smoked 2 cigs
: before the meal and 1
: after. On the other
: side three women and two
: men at a table. As the
: three women finished
: their soups and salads,
: they all pulled out
: their cigs and fired up.
: The men kept eating
: their fish. They
: finished. They talked
: and ordered coffee. The
: ladies were smoking up
: one cig after another.
: Never did see the men
: smoke at either table.
:
: Sorry this got long.
: Will try to post
: something more
: interesting next time.
