Posted by Mark on August 6, 2006, 13:52:31 The first of three highlights from Saturday evening came within minutes after I walked through the gate and headed towards the midway. A group of four 18-ish cuties was coming my direction, with one of them (the cutest in fact) wielding a cigarette. I took another loop around to get a second look and saw another of the four (the least attractive of the four but still not bad) puffing away on her own. Later I saw these girls heading to their cars and gawked their direction until they were out of sight, hoping for additional light-ups that never came to fruition. Had all four of these dolls sparked up, it would have been my sighting of the year (and eerily reminiscent of my great original fair time sighting from 1996). Since only two of them did, it'll have to settle for a consolation prize. The next of the impressive sightings was a seemingly younger brunette girl that intrigued because it was very difficult to discern her age. Her petite figure screamed early adolescent, but she looked more like 16 close-up. I could tell others were shocked to see a girl that looked so young publicly smoking as several people took a second look as they passed her dragging on her cork-filter. She was in the company of what I would presume would be younger brothers (in the 8-10 range seemingly) and another 14-ish looking Latino girl who at least at that time was not smoking. My favorite sighting of the night came towards the end of the evening, with about 15 minutes left before the late concert ended. I happened to be passing the grandstand region and noticed three 21-ish chicks leaving the concert early, apparently unable to tolerate the nicotine withdrawal with the outdoor grandstand's ridiculous new no-smoking rule. Their lighters lit up the evening sky and were followed by the continued glow of their burning cigarettes keeping the illumination alive. I took a seat at a nearby bench to get a closer look at them feeding their insatiable nicotine dependencies. None of the girls looked like smokers, but they weren't all bombshells. One was a blonde who was cute, but overweight. Another was a dirty blonde who was mildly attractive. The third, however, made the sighting so worthwhile. She was a brunette with long, curly hair, a fantastic body, and wearing a short denim mini-skirt that really accentuated her body. A 40-something lady passed her and asked to bum a cigarette, which she gladly provided the lady. Given that the concert was playing and I could pretend to simply be listening to the music nearby, I was able to watch this nicotine hottie's entire performance, and it was very satisfying......long and intense inhales where she sucked the living bejeezus out of that all-white filter and then produced a huge cloud of exhaust after every drag. Again, if all three girls were as hot as her, this would have been the hands-down winner of this year's fair sightings, but since that wasn't the case, I'll defer to my Wednesday and Friday night sightings for the grand prize and reserve champion ribbons. The blue ribbon goes to adorable 18-ish brunette in the red shorts I saw on Wednesday evening. For sheer cuteness, this is a very hard sighting to top. The red ribbon winner is helped out by the context of the sighting....the 21-ish blonde from Friday helping the disabled ladies navigate the fairgrounds and sneaking a cigarette when the opportunity arose. Hot stuff all around. Another fantastic fair season wrapped up, but not only do I have my #1 sightings of the year still on the horizon (the Minnesota State Fair in late August), I also plan to visit the Iowa State Fair for a day next weekend, ideally taking in dozens more outstanding sightings. There were no clearcut blue ribbon winners for "Sighting of the Year" at this year's county fair, but there were several in contention and the final evening of the local extravaganza was no exception. I hung around with a buddy for much of the early evening and didn't sit at my usual sightings-friendly section of the grandstand for last night's concert, but stayed late to compensate and scored 21 sightings.
