Who would have thought she smoked?
Posted by Usually Lurks on March 3, 2006, 4:44:10, in reply to "the truth" Of course, the anti statistics about so many smokers wanting to quit don't take that into account. Nor do they correct for the political correctness of saying it. A couple of memories-- Talking once with a gorgeous mid-20s Reds smoker I once knew about what a hassle smoking was becoming said, "I love to smoke! I love the taste of tobacco and the smell of smoke!" Talking to two middle-aged smokers chaining their Reds 100s during a work break, the subject turned to someone who'd quit via hypnosis. One says to the other "Maybe WE should try that." The other (45-ish, smoked since 13) replies, "No-- I really don't WANT to quit. I enjoy it too much."

I think most smokers are of two minds about their habit. There's worry about the health consequences and annoyance about the stubborness of the habit, but for many there's genuine, deep pleasure.
