Posted by sami (Sammy) on 2/15/2007, 12:34 am, in reply to "Re: Sens, Emery, blah blah blah" the nhl is so poorly run its almost embarassing. if the nhl knew how to properly market themselves theyd play up the franchise player. i want to ride the bus and see ray emery posters everywhere. they've blown the following opportunities: the reason why the press coverage is so insultingly awful is that the league is hobbling along. if it wasnt for the fact that an entire country of people straight up lives and breathes hockey for 6 months a year the league would be in the toilet. the whole league is duct taped together by incompetence. its only because it's an actual national pasttime that we overlook this shit. back to the topic, i agree with laforge and cant really add anything to the conversation. except that, as shane said, every fan thinks everyone hates their team. you can make the case for every team, although its really true with ottawa. the team is halfway between an annoying 6 year old and vintage kobe bryant. either no one wants to hear about it or they really dont want to hear about it. no other team is dismissed out of hand more than les boys
not being cute here, but they have a black goalie who had tyson on his mask and gets in fights.
1. every romantic comedy/buddy movie in the 90s with any sport subplot (the guy was into sports) was related to hockey
2. they couldnt even rig the draft to send crosby to a major market (a la patrick ewing). if he was in ny and got the right push he'd be getting billed over the knicks by next year
3. they balked out on their contract with espn. now the all star game is on a wednesday and on a premium cable channel in the US no one's even heard of. espn wouldnt even take ads from the nhl, its like a 2nd tier sport, maybe 3rd tier
4. the canadian teams account for 1/3 the revenue of the league but they get no respect in the US because no one will watch them on tv and pay to see them. so dumb
5. the schedule is ####ing gay. its like baseball in the 80s. if youre going to go backwards then you should get rid of free agency so at least teams are teams
6. there was an actual strike killing the league in the us
