You got your opinion, I got mine. I take it for granted that Toronto and Montreal are going to get the lion's share of attention and support, but explain to me how everyone in the country can have a crush on one or all of the western teams because they're so "real" ie. lots of ugly dudes play for them, put up mediocre numbers and lose playoff series in 'gutsy' fashion, how their failures are equivocated and rationalized, while their successes bring tears to everyone's eye, menawhile the Senatros are a punchline? With the Sens, it's their success, not their failure, that everyone feels the need to make excuses for. Everything that goes right for the team is held by the media in escrow until it's time to throw it in their faces when they lose a playoff series, never, mind you, in 'gutsy' fashion, but always via a 'choking'. Convenient myths have been erected...my favorite of which is that the Sens are a perennial league powerhouse, always favoured in the playoffs, and blow it everytime. LOL. 7th place in 2002 (behind the leafs), 5th place in 2004 (behind the leafs), 1st place in 2003...and the team misses final by a goal. They even had their 'plucky' phase back in 97-98 they took the sabres to 7, and then beat Jersey the following year. Nobody west of Kingston gave a shi.t about that, but every time the oil lost to Dallas it was a four-hanky epic.
"Flies under the radar", that's such bullshi.t. There are only 6 teams in this country, and the entire sports media is totally beholden, straight up devoted, to the sport during the season. Do the math, nobody is forgetting to cover anything. The Senators get plenty of attention, pretty much all of it in capacity of foil to the Leafs and/or Habs, and pretty much all of it negative.
I'd be fine with it if all the local writers Garrioch, stevenson, Brennan that homo) didn't act like they're punching the clock in the minors, waiting for the Greg Millen callup to the bigtime. They're the ones with the inferiority complex, not the fans.
The team has a bunch of young marketable talent, a f'ucking BLACK goalie, and wins almost 60% of its games. The fact that, as you say, nobody cares about any of that is , in my eyes, a clear INDICATION that I'm onto something, not a refutation.
"This IS f.uckin' Colorado!"
