Posted by LaForge on 11/16/2006, 9:54 pm, in reply to "i think..." So what do you do? For starters, you accept that teams don't get 100 points every year, and you stick to what those good old boys were saying in the preseason about "adversity making us better when it counts". All these cementheads got swept away in Oiler mania last year, but none of them seem to remember that team's e atrocious start to what was a just-slightly-less-than-atrocious regular seasonn, during which another of their all-time faves, Mike Peca, was straight uyp terrible. So, maybe it's a cop out, but I say we wait for things to improve. That Emery is back--and more importantly, that he proved everyone right by being part fo the difference last night--is a big deal, I think. So many knocks on the team went out the window vs buffalo, at least for one night. They surmounted a deficit, they scored on the power play, they got big saves, and they continued to play a presusre/attack style when they were trailing. I might be choosing the most convenient time imaginable to predict that the worst is over, but I don't care--I think it's true. Besides, this post will still be about 3 topics from the top of the page come March, so I'll have to answer if I'm wrong.
Trading a roster player will only only fu.ck the team, that's my take. Like, there's a reason why there's a seller's market on draft picks and grub players--those are assets that will always be there for the taking. Tom Preissing is what happens when you trade established, homegrown players. These Conroy, Doan, and--especially--Brendan Morrison rumours all made me puke. I wouldn't trade Magnus Arvedson for any of those wannabe has-beens who are more like never-wheres.
Conroy: once (ie 4 years ago) played on a line with a dude who scored 51 goals. Wicked.
Doan: the choice of the Ottawa valley good old boy (who is also well known for such things as booing spezza, agreeing with don brennan, and espousing the promotion of mike fisher to the captaincy, by virtue, one presumes, of his not being a weird looking scando), but fu.ck this guy and his injuries and his lack of meaningful playoff experience and, most of all, his willingness to aceept mediocrity. None of the players on the coyotes are any better for being on his team, which, if anything at all, is what the sens need out of a new acquisition.
Brendan Morrison: once (ie 3 years ago) played on a line with a dirt-stupid prima donna motherf.ucker who socred a couple of 1-second-left goals vs. the mighty wild, and also with an overrated total queer whose stats are worse than in the tank now that his bf plays (shittily) in florida.
I'm serious--Gerber for Martin Biron is about the only trade I'd even consider. Team's not great, but team is good, and can win.
"This IS f.uckin' Colorado!"
