Hi Tom, regarding hoping Alan Irvine (AI) being the man this season - he will be - that's if he stays at Deepdale. By the time Christmas arrives I'm sure there will be one or two Premier league managers in the melting pot (if not before) and their relevant clubs will come knocking on PNE's door.
Moyes left in 2002 when he moved to Everton after his success at Deepdale. And I can see that repeating itself - if Irvine's success continues at the club.
North End would be in League one now, only for the Irvine rescue last season, and his unbeaten start in two league and a League Cup tie will only stand him in good stead - and obviously alert other clubs.
This has been the situation at North End, regarding players, ever since I first started supporting PNE 40 years ago.
And I don't forsee any change. That's football.
North End lost Moyes, and in recent years fell out with Billy Davies, who went onto manage Derby County - taking the into the Premier League, and bagging £60million in the process.
Whilst the club are commended in what they have achieved in the years since the old fourth division era, I feel that the club's successes (players/managers) have been cherry picked at will by the clubs who have the financial clout. Well done PNE, but our success could be at the expense of losing Irvine - and other players in the months ahead.
