Farrell Kilbane is correct - and not his more famous brother Kevin. In an extract from the book Farrell reveals that Beckham use to take him to training while on loan at Preston. I had an in-depth interview with Farrell, who is now married with 2 children, and a Prison Officer, who plays part-time football at Burscough.
In David Beckham-In at The Deep End, Farrell says: "It was a transitional time at PNE when Beckham arrived. Beckham had no heirs and graces - and indeed gave me and Jamie Squires a lift to the training ground in his car. He was brilliant towards us, despite having the Manchester United tag. Beckham was a very shy lad, and in no way a flashy person. He came back from time to time to watch PNE, and always held the club in his heart. With the new diet of pasta, etc, introduced at the time, I can honestly say we never stopped off for burger and chips!"
Northern Ireland trio George Best, David Healy and Keith Gillespie are also featured in the book - with Man U legend Lou Macari exclusively talking about Beckham at Preston - and about Beckham following in the footsteps of Best in going to play in America.
David Beckham-In at The Deep End is a limited publication, with orders already taken in England, Scotland, Ireland, the Netherlands and Spain.
