I have never heard of a cat attacking a dog before. It's always been the other way around.
We had a dog when we were younger and it belonged to my sister and was a terrier mix and she would chase the cats right up the step ladder we used in the kitchen.
I think animosity between cats and dogs has been going on a long time and sometimes we have to wonder--has the dog done something to the cat when you haven't been around to monitor them? I think I would start being sneaky and checking--or have someone else check--on what your cat and dog are doing while you're away. It could be interesting to find out.
