When I adopted a brother-sister cat team 20 years ago, I actually TRAINED them to sleep, if not actually on my head, on my pillow so that they would be the first thing I saw when I awakened in the morning. With my big head and two full-grown cats, it got rather crowded at times, and I ended up with cats on my head rather than next to it more times than I can count. I suspect that they were more likely to sleep on my head in the winter, for the warmth. They had a tendency to point their little rear ends at my nose when sleeping, and many a night was spent in the atmosphere of kitty anus odor (since cats tend to lick each other's rear ends as a sign of love, they MAY have been hoping I'd do that, but I do have my limits). My present cats have totally different sleeping patterns; the female (who is quite feral) likes to hide in the closet while the rest of the household is asleep, and the male is a foot sleeper. He's very affectionate, and I thought I could train him to sleep near my head, but nope, it's feet for him. To his credit, he's usually touching me as he sleeps, so we are "connected" in every sense of the word. I'd prefer it if he would sleep somewhere where I could see him, but he apparently has his reasons, and he's "trained" me to accept his sleeping at my feet. The female will sleep with me, under the covers, ONLY during the daylight hours -- cats being cats, I'm sure she has a reason for this, but I sure can't figure out what it might be! And she too always makes sure that her backside is toward my face and her head pointing toward my feet! I'm not sure if this is shyness, hostility, or again, a vain hope that Mommy will clean her privates. Cats are weird.
