: Dearest Diva, Pepper Mashay,
: A year ago I bought one of my first
: techno cds, and it featured two of the
: hottest songs I had ever heard. "I Got
: My Pride" and "Down In The
: Pool." A year and four hundred and some
: odd techno songs later, and those are still
: two of my favorites. I attended the recent
: Harrisburg Pride in Pennsylvania. As I was
: walking in, I heard someone behind me mention
: your name. I stopped, turned around and said
: "What about Pepper Mashay?" They
: mentioned you were performing. I nearly
: fainted. I was so excited. I've never met any
: of my singing idols before, hell, I've never
: met ANY of my idols before. I was bouncing
: around pride, wishing the time would roll
: around for your performance. Although I did
: enjoy the drag show (Amythest Diamond, in the
: cheerleader outfit, is a close friend of mine
: and probably my drag idol.), I screamed my
: head off when you came on stage.
: I was near tears as well. See, I know you
: kept saying that your songs were just songs,
: your words just words, but I had a lot of
: trouble coming out to my mother (my parents
: are divorced), and the first time I heard
: "I Got My Pride" I shed tears. Your
: song filled me with hope that things would
: get better, and even more importantly, pride
: for who I was. I listened to that song
: multiple times a day (my college room mates
: got very sick of it) and suggested in the be
: theme for Shippensburg Univeristy's annual
: lgbt conference. So actually seeing you in
: person was a very moving experiance.
: And then, to make my second harrisburg
: pride even better, I got to dance on stage
: with you. I was the little raver kid in the
: black mesh/blue tank with the red leather
: belt. . .the one you compared to Michael
: Jackson (I was going for early Madonna, but
: my friends pointed out there isn't much
: difference). Even thinking about it now, I'm
: moved beyond words. You've filled my life
: with hope, and actually seeing you perform
: filled me with inspiration. You have such an
: energy about you, a charisma that lets people
: know they're important, and if everyone bands
: together, things can be changed.
: My boyfriend is sick and tired of hearing
: me talk about you, but my other club friends
: were very impressed. One of them even pointed
: out that I fullfilled a life long goal, the
: first and only one I've fullfilled so far.
: Not only did I get to meet my favorite
: performer, I got to dance on stage with her
: as well. These last few months have been very
: difficult for me, I had a mental breakdown
: and left college, but I'm returning this
: month. Seeing you perform made me the
: happiest I've been in months. Thank you so
: much for coming to such a small city, as far
: as cities go, to perform for a group of
: people that most of society rejects. You are
: truly loved and appreciated. Thank you again,
: Justin Harper
: P.S. You don't look a day over 30, I think
: you're lying about your age!
: P.P.S. Very, very upset that I decided to
: leave my digital camera in my car :(
: "Don't cower at shadows, only fear that
: which leaps out of them."
:
I seen you and I could tell u were having the time of your life on stage.Stay well..
