The USYSA uses a series of tryouts to select a state team from western Pa. 20 or so players are selected and sometimes more. These players then compete in an ODP event between states and a regional team is selected. While its a good thing that more are involved in the system, no area has 20 or more ODP level players. If you are not the top 1 or 2 players you are wasting your time. But! these players can place "ODP" on a resume. The SYL ODP is selected by play in the SYL season The drawback here is that numbers are limited to 20 or 25 players from across a division that included teams from Wisconsin to Pa. Some good players are not selected because of this. The USYSA is an older system and is recognized to be. The cost of USYSA is last time I checked around $1000.00. My personal opinion is this If you are pretty sure you will make the SYL ODP selection , Make it your priority and go for it. Just being at an event with the National team has no equal. Its unfortunate you need to make a choice but for now you need to. If better heads would prevail we would merge these systems and point the players in the direction that would do them best in each situation.

The United States Olympic com. has two youth systems for exposure to the national Team system.
The USYSA (Pa West) and the SYL (USL)
and selected to a divisional team and sent to National camp.
Also our players are up against players from Chi Magic, Mequon, and other teams from that area known for producing National team players.
The SYL camp is attended by the National team and its staff.
The SYL is included in the season and a $300.00 charge will be for the National camp if you are selected.
If you are not sure go the USYSA way. There are levels you may obtain State/Regional/National.
We are working on it on this end.
