Eric Cottam was my grandad. i was lucky to have spent 16 wonderfull years of my life living with my grandad and he was an amazing man devoted to his paintings, and grandchildren. he also hd many other talents such as laying the piano and sewing. may i just say that it would give him great pleasure in knowing that so many people get pleasure out of his paintings as he did when painting them. thankyou for all your comments and feel free to add more.
sadly the angels took him from us four year ago.
but it is wonderfull knowing that his memory lives on in not only those who love him, but those who love his paintings aswell

: My husband and I were holidaying with my
: parents in the Lake District in 1982 and
: came across an art exhibition in Ambleside.
: The artist was there (Eric Cottam) and
: talked to us about the various paintings for
: sale. From the many beautiful pictures on
: display we purchased two and took them home.
: My father fell in love with a particular
: picture which was, unfortunately, already
: sold. He spoke of it many times when
: reminiscing about the holiday, always
: wishing we had come across the exhibition
: the day before when the painting would still
: have been for sale. My father is no longer
: alive, but whenever looking at our paintings
: I wonder if the owner of the one we
: "missed" realises how lucky they
: are to have bought it. I don't know if Mr
: Cottam is still alive - he would be a good
: age if he is!
