When I was told that Steve was dead I was not surprised. I thought, for sure, that his beloved Marilyn had died and that consumed by grief he did not want to carry on living without her. That was not however the case. He had apparently planned his death, proceeded to tell certain people how he was to "do it" , and then shot himself leaving Marilyn to grieve.
The church service, with his ashes present, I hope was not part of the plan. When the Eulogy was read and it was suggested that Stephen was "now waiting for Marilyn" I was horrified. She screamed and I can only imagine what might have been going through her mind. Waiting for how long? - days, a week, years. I hope he waits forever after what he has done.
To make matters worse, the local bar in St Blancard has been set up as a shrine to his memory as though he is some sort of hero.
How macabre is that?
A bar that I am unable to enter for reasons the owners Pascale and Alain are not prepared to discuss. This exclusion is further supported by our erstwhile friends Pete and Sally.
Anyone who can shed some light on this bizarre state of affairs ?
