My husband and I were holidaying with my parents in the Lake District in 1982 and came across an art exhibition in Ambleside. The artist was there (Eric Cottam) and talked to us about the various paintings for sale. From the many beautiful pictures on display we purchased two and took them home. My father fell in love with a particular picture which was, unfortunately, already sold. He spoke of it many times when reminiscing about the holiday, always wishing we had come across the exhibition the day before when the painting would still have been for sale. My father is no longer alive, but whenever looking at our paintings I wonder if the owner of the one we "missed" realises how lucky they are to have bought it. I don't know if Mr Cottam is still alive - he would be a good age if he is!
