I think a standardbred might be perfect for my 8 year old. She has just started English riding lessons, so I have a lot of time to pick out a horse for her. Does anyone have advice for a 1st time horse owner? I personally know very little about horses. I can afford to stable one, but getting a horse to the stables, vet bills, and knowing if I'm buying a lame horse are all things I know nothing about. I can't see buying a 25-30 year old horse. The school horses are sometimes to cranky or lame to use, so we use one that's feeling good that day. I don't want a horse that can't be ridden on "bad days". But, I also don't want a horse that throws my daughter every time it startles. Advice? Thanks!!
