I just found out last night about a 7 y/o Standardbred that is going to the Shipshewana IN sale on Friday. The owner says they have a special section for "meat" horses and that is what he is going to put him in because he took off and broke through the gate last night in a race. Some of the other trainers and I have been trying to talk him out of it and to sell him as a riding horse but he says no he is going to the sale. He is bringing another horse, a 2 y/o roanish/brown filly as well, he said she'd make a good riding horse (she will need training) but shes gentle, he will take $600 for her. He said she is going in the riding horse section or non killer section. Back to Gypsy, the stallion, I believe he'll take $450 for him. Thats what he said he would get for the meat price. I know this guy is cruel, he obviously doesn't care about his animals like I thought he did. For punishment this horse is getting no grain now...just hay...I checked to make sure he had given him hay. I would save him but I'm overloaded with rescue efforts with tons of stray cats right now and its drained me. He is about 15 hands black (it says brown in the racebook but he looks black) with a cute white star...I think he is very cute. I went in the stall last night after he left and did a onceover...I found that the inside of his left knee has been scalped...I didn't see any bones but it will need attention...The sale is Friday morning...so anyone interested please see if you can get him by Wednesday or Thursday...Thursday may even be too late....you can e-mail me or call my cell phone anytime at 859-396-4414. It is $40 a month to keep a horse at the racetrack if you cannot pick up immediately. I can contact the track vet if you need him gelded, will probably be $100? The owner said he has a good personality which I think is the most important thing in a horse. If you cannot help gypsy but would like to know of other horses coming off the racetrack e-mail me and I'll keep in touch and let you know of anymore. Please include your price range...the possiblity of a free horse is very very rare. This horse is located at Lebanon Raceway in Lebanon Oh (also called the warren county fairgrounds) between Cincinati and Dayton. Thanks. Jennifer
