1 Thing ya'all can do is Call your local Harness Racing Track. Call the Race office and let them know your looking for a horse that needs to retire,let them pass the word around to all the trainers and ask them to post it on the race office window.
You will be surprised at the Quality of the horses on the track. They maybe done racing But all that means is their ready for "Chapter 2 Of their lives" 
The horse may need let down time and retraining as a riding horse should be no problem at all The Standardbred is a Smart horse.
In the years I've placed horses They have gone on to ALL Disiplines ex: Dressage, Trail horses,Endurance(they excell at that Western,English Anything you want to do a S/bred Can do.. Time Patience and Love is the key to it. And always Find a Trainer who is NOT "BREED PREJUDICE" and YES S/Breds CAN Cantor
Again Call your Local track and get in touch with the race office. IF you need help in finding a track please let me know and I will get you the info.
