Posted by Rick Tipton I generally am a man of few words, in 25 years of teaching and coaching I have never put myself into a center of controvesy and that is not my entent now. I consider my greatest coaching achievement this past year as not taking a team that was 7-18 two years ago and going 20-7 and being one game from the state tournament but rather that I got to pray with 3 of my varsity girls this year as they surrendered their lives to Jesus Christ. There is something wrong with our process when someone with the following resume' does not make all-state. 9th grade / 24 games / 13.2 ppg / 9.8 rpg Magen Roth has attended Kellyville schools 13 years. She has a 3.2 GPA, she has never been written up for any disciplinary action in her four years of high school. She is well respected by all her teachers and school administration. Her and her teammates were in a negative losing atmosphere her 9th and 10th grade years but she fought through those years and did not seek to leave her school. In the two years I have coached her she as done nothing but lace em tight and give 100% in EVERY practice and EVERY game. She plays the game hard, aggressive, and with emotion, she hates to lose. Ask the coaches who played us during the play-offs if she is an all-stater. 20 points and 11 rebounds in the first round of regionals vs. Blackwell, 26 points on 11 of 16 shooting and 14 rebounds vs. Tecumseh in the regionial championship game, 14 points and 10 rebounds vs. Grove in area, 13 points and 10 rebounds vs Vinita in area, and 20 points on 9 of 12 shooting and 12 rebounds vs. Tecumseh in the area con. finals. I know for a fact that some coaches during the workout process did not put her on their ballots having never seen her play one time in her career because other coaches told them that she had an attitude. What some may precive as an attitude was in her case an intense desire to win. I believe our "try-out" process is a joke. All-state should be based on a career and Sr. season not a one time pick-up session where 75% of the coaches have never seen 75% of the girls play one time and the region reps are taking care of each other and the whole process is a who's the best politician session. I hope Rocky and the other OGBCA officers will consider reevaluating our selection process, I know that I am not the only one who feels this way. I also believe that we should consider putting term limits on region rep positions. I appreciate the work that these people do but some have become like supreme court justices, life-time appointments, again I know that there are several who feel the same way. I know others would step into these position and work hard but there are certian rep positions that have become untouchable and no one will consider running against these people. I would like for the middle east reps, some who I have tried to contact and got no return call, to contact me and let me know why someone with Magen's resume' is not an all-stater.

I want to begin this by stating that I have been a member of this organization for over 20 years. I have served as a regional rep and have promoted this organization by bringing my teams to demonstrate at clinics, and by bringing my teams to watch other teams demonstrate at clinics. I have developed several great relationships with my fellow coaches and I have the greatest respect for all of you who do what we do.
