Posted by Kate W. on 6/8/2007, 3:33 pm I am seeking a horse related hands on job. I can easily work for one person that has one, ten, or more horses. I can just as easily work at a boarding facility. There isn’t a minimum or maximum of horses you have to have. I am 18 years old, and I officially get out of school June 14th 2007, than I graduate June 16th. And than I leave for Washington D.C. for two weeks as a graduation present. I am about 5' 3", and I'm fit enough to lift up to 50lbs. I have the natural ability in order to get horses what I want them to do on the ground. It almost seems like I have a horse whispering gift. I am able to get them to understand what I want them to do and what quality I expect from them. And with this ability I hope to gain more experience in training horses. There's nothing I haven't really done before. I've been stepped on, tripped, rammed into walls and rails by different horses. I've been bucked three times, once several times, than the other two was just a buck or two. I've been on one run away horse (luckily it happened in an arena, so the horse wasn't going to go any where.) One horse has even reared on the ground because he saw his shadow from a street light. I have almost been dragged by horses on the ground. I have been side swiped by horses who have tried to shove past me. I’ve mucked out stalls with overly aggressive horses (one of which was unpredictable, he both bite and lashed out, but I had a croup and showed it to him, telling him if he tried anything funny, he would get a tap on the flanks.) I’ve had one horse flip out because I was taking off her blanket, she even bucked at me to toss the blanket. I would have left it on her, but it was a heavy blanket, and it was warming up, or else I would have let someone else deal with her. No one had really done with her when she was born, than someone bought her at 15. In the past I've had horses try and intimidate me, usually with their size. I have also have on the ground and in the saddle have had horses shy at one thing or another. I have also handled horses that are unpredictable one way or another. I have horse's try to bite me, my current lesson horse always tries to at least get in a bite or two before the lesson starts. My past of riding horses includes helping to break horses to saddle. And than I would ride them at a walk, getting them used to a rider and having them walk by/over obstacles to desensitize them to spooky looking objects. Than have them turn this way and that way, circles, figure eights, and have them respond in a quite, soft and quick manner. And teach them to remain calm under any circumstance. I have also help train horses unsure of themselves and help give them confidence, while help horses full of themselves to remember their manners. I hope to retrain race horses and other horses bound for slaughter. I also have been trained in Resistance Free horse training. When I am with horses, I always use my body language and my voice. I’ve also trained one horse to stand in a wash rack quietly while being bathed. Before, she had never been in a wash rack and was resisting the cross ties, and even the whites of her eyes were showing. I would just have her stand in the wash rack for a few moments, or when ever she calmed down, than walk her out. And continued the process. Later I would run the water over her once at least once a day. Than after two weeks she began to calm down, and I was able to use shampoo in her mane and tail. Than later when she was completely relaxed I washed her whole body with body wash and a jelly curry. I have also trained horses to slide over to mount. I have also have trained horses to ignore ‘buttons’ they have (the things they don’t like done). I have even trained horses that are reluctant to be halter and be led, to wear a halter calmly, than walk beside their handler, rather than dragging the handler along. With all horses, I teach leadership. I am the leader, I will take care of you, I will tell you need to run, thus you don’t need to freak out at everything and become a danger to me, yourself, and everyone else around you. And it has worked. I’ve had horses uncontrollable, turn around to be controllable, trustworthy mounts, when someone thought they would have to sell or euthanize them. I have not shown, but I wish to show. I don't believe in the old way in breaking horses, the old tie them up and leave them for a few hours or days in those positions and forcing them to do what the human wants them to do. Rather than letting them know there will be a consequence if they do something their not supposed to do. And yet they'll get praises and rewards when they do something we want them to do. Which makes them a whole lot more willing to do what we want them to do, because they want the rewards and than they don't fear us. I ride western, mainly pleasure, and I am currently riding a horse that requires soft, and subtitle aids, or else it's off to the races. I ride with soft, sympathetic and humane hands, but I will get on the bit if the horse isn't listening to what I want them to do. Despite the fact I was thrown, and have been bruised and battered, I always look forward in being with the horses. I have mainly handled Arabs, but I have handled thoroughbreds, Quarter horses, ponies, and paints. I hope to lean what I already don't know already. I am not afraid to get dirty, and I will do what ever it takes to get the job done. I know that this job will take time, commitment, and not backing down from challenges that are associated with becoming a trainer. Please be serious when e-mailing me. I am trying to gain more experience, and become a more rounded horsewoman. So if your expecting someone experienced, and you don’t have to teach them anything. I am not the one. I still have things to learn, and I’m willing to learn. I would like to stay in Pierce, Thurston and King county WA, but am willing to travel to most places in WA, and the northern part of OR. Options: $10 per hr, lessons 2-3x’s per week (Perice, Thurston, King County WA), free lease (Perice, Thurston, King County WA), I’m also open to POE. If you e-mail me while I am gone, I will get back to you ASAP e-mail horselover81_00@hotmail.com
