Posted by L.A. on 11/5/2006, 9:55 am The property is about 3.5 acres (I think - I am not good with property sizes). The new horse would be with my horse and they would be on approx. 2.0 acres. There is a stall available for the new horse. Currently, there are a total of 4 horses boarded there. The other two boarders and I sectioned off the property so our own horses have their own area (except for the new horse and my horse are completely together). However there may be times we open the gates and let all horses hang out/graze together (probably in the spring/summer). What we are looking for in another boarder is a reliable, down to earth, fun, positive, horse (animal) lover, pro-active and team player. And ideally, a person who likes to spend time with their horse. A couple horses have strict dietary needs so the new boarder would need to respect that also. We work as a team to make sure all the horses are taken care of. We rotate A.M./P.M. feeding/turn-in/out but we clean up after our own horses DAILY. We want to keep the property clean, safe and the mud down (and rats away) so this person would need to help with barn chores (such as, keeping the tack/feed room clean/picked up, keeping your areas water trough clean/filled, picking the sacrifice area(s) where your horse is allowed, repairing and checking the hotwire fencing when needed, etc..). Since we work as a team we will cover for each other if something unexpected comes up or you are going out of town. Since this horse will be with my 11 year old Arabian mare it needs to be easy-going and not challenge or try and fight her. Plus, current on all their shots/worming. My horse is pretty easy going and has been turned out with mares, geldings and babies throughout her whole life. The area they are on I have divided into 4 areas. Two sacrifice areas and two pasture areas. One pasture area is closed for the winter and will be re-seeded so the grass can grow for spring - then I will be rotating between the two pasture areas. If you are interested but can't make it out daily to clean your stall, feed, turn out, and pick the sacrifice areas - basically you need partial board - I would be willing to help you out but I will charge $5.00 a day. I am at the barn daily but if I help the person out I would also need the person to be reliable and able to step in in case something unexpected happens to me(I get sick, injure myself, etc..) and I cannot make it to the barn or be able to clean stalls, or what have you. But we can talk more about that if a "partial" setting is what you need for your horse. The self-care board is $125.00 a month. You purchase your own feed, stall bedding, etc.. Oh yea, all additional "maintenance" costs (pasture seeds, gravel, hogs fuel, etc..) is bought and/or split between the boarders who's horses benefit from it. If interested or want additional information (or more clarification on this novel:-) ) please email: ruby2toby@yahoo.com
We have an opening for one horse (self-care boarding) at the place I keep my horse in Brier (walking distance from Brier Park where there is an outdoor equestrian arena to ride in).
