This is all a League thing only.
When Heels first started the mat, it was made to simulate an ASA Strike, it was done so the umpires job was made easier and more consistent. It worked great for years. Now, it seems like the mat is supposed to be an advantage for Pitchers, Why? And before anybody says anything, I pitched back when we first started using it. Was it easier to throw a strike? Sure it was, hit the mat, strike.
Yea, its underhand and everybody should hit it easy and all that happy horseshit, we are missing the point why this league went to the mat initially. To make this game better. When we use a mat that is way too long for a 10 foot arc strike zone and now a 12 foot arc strike zone that is so out of wack, its stupid.
Why not try something really weird, let the umpires call strikes themselves without the mat .... Make it 8-10-12-14 foot arc, whatever pitchers want, but make it a real strike.
