The Yanks bought their championship. All the Phillies had the flu. Etc., etc. Gimme a break. Regardless of the Yankees payroll, both teams played the same game with the same equipment, and both teams played 3 games on their home field. The Yankees played better and with less mistakes than the Phils. End of story.
And, by the way, the big money makers on the Yankees didn't do much. Tex hit below .200, CC was 0-1 with a 3+ ERA, and Burnett was 1-1 with a 6+ ERA. If you want to throw A-Rod in there because he makes big bucks, remember that he has been a Yankee for 6 seasons now and this is his first championship (and he only hit .250 on the series). Same goes for Damon, who has been here for 4 years. He's not making big bucks, but he did have a great series.
4 of the 20 or so players that played for the Yanks this series have been with the Yankees since 1996. 7 more came up from the Yankees farm system, and 1 other came straight from Japan and hasn't played for any other MLB teams. 4 players were brought in for big money (3 in the '08 off season), and they just didn't do much. 1 was brought in for average money (5 years ago) and was definitely an asset. The rest of the guys were a hodge podge of journey men like Swisher. So you're wrong. the Yankees didn't buy their championship; they earned it.
In the end, the Yanks are no different from the Phils, except management is willing to do what it takes to deliver a championship, which is why the players play the game and why we watch the games. The Phils will be facing this same scenario in a year or 2 when all their big talent is up for new contracts and demanding big money. Would you have the Phils tell them to take a hike because you'd rather have a lower payroll and another 25-year wait for a championship, or have them resigned for whatever it costs? Something tells me you'd have them resigned whatever the cost in hopes of bringing home another championship.
how 'bout you just give some credit where credit is due.
Dimitry - I love the wall paper, bud, but it does make it a little tough to read the posts.
