King of useless information
The Sunday Fall League held their annual Playoff tournament to crown the champion and TNT Sports Club/Gibbons Legal went through the playoff tournament undefeated to capture the 2009 Norristown Sunday Fall League Championship. The champs defeated a tough Legion of Boom squad in the final two Championship games. The first game was back and forth until Tom Gibbons plated the winning runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to give TNT a come-from-behind 17-16 victory. In the Final game, the TNT squad started off with a bang and never looked back. I have to give Legion of Boom manager Derek Angelo a lot of credit as he has put a good team together this year. Derek has also proved to many people that he is a great young talent and a class act as well. His brother Freddy pitches and also packs the power for the Boomers. Fred is also a great young player and it's no wonder, they are the sons of one of the best and nicest guys to ever play in Norristown; (Fred Angelo, Sr.), who patrolled the outfield for many years in this league. The Boomers Carmen Desimone, Anthony Pettine, Gus West, Duke Nave and Eriz Benitez all put on a hitting clinic throughout the day.
Young Drew Gulotta played a great OF also, while young MacAteer also had some timely hits.
For the winners, Tom Gibbons made an out in his first at bat and then prtoceeded to get
15 straight hits to capture the Playoff MVP Award (15-16, .938). Other members of the winning squad having good days include Matt O'Hara (12-15, .800 with 2 HRs), Drian Dunlap and Roger Kummerer (both 11-15, .733), Ray Picard (10-15, .667), Steve Dimitry (11-17, .647), Scott Acornly (10-17, .588) and Bill Shipe (7-13, .538). The Remaining team members include Chris Smith, Kenny Shepard, Hayden McCall, Chris Molitor and JJ Hinkle. It was a total team effort and each person played their part.
I'd like to thank Jay Rissel and Jimmy Myers for umpiring all day as well as Heels for his
usual guidance and a special thanks goes out to Big Ernie Chintalan who kept the book all day
and helped out with advice as he usually does.
