The Norristown Fall Classic was held and even though only three teams wanted to play, it was still a great day and fun was had by all. Worcvester HVAC went undefeated in bracket play defeating Depaul's B/C All-Stars and Legion of Boom. The All-Stars were 1-1 and finished 2nd in brackt play and the Boomers went 0-2 to finsh third. In the Double Elimination round of the event, The Boomers were eliminated first to finish third and I want to thank Derek Angelo for putting his team in at the last minute so we can have this event. He saved the tournament and even though they played shorthanded, exhibited a tremendous amount of heart all day. The championship game was a classic. Chris Carter and his All-Stars led 13-8 going into the last inning. But Worcester HVAC showed why many of their players were part of the ASA of PA Class-C state Champs and also the Norristown A-Division Champs as they proceeded to score 6 runs in the last inning to win the tournament. Manager Bill Gulotta (who hit 2 HRs on the day) said "the B and C divisions have so much talent and I'm glad that we could help show people that there is softball in Norristown other than the A-Division." Very classy statement by the Worcester manager.
Gary 'Augie' Mauger was awarded the tournament MVP award for his great defense and great hitting. Other members of the winning team include Joe Santucci (batted about .997), Shawn Remish (2-HRs), Tom Pagel (2-HRs), Steve Thompson, Mike Harbaugh, Drew Gulotta, Carmen Desimone, Johnny Grady and Cousin Gulotta.
The B/C stars were led by Chris Carter who went 10-11 and led the tournament in Home Runs with 5.
Mikey Angelo banged one over the center field fience along with Joe McFarlane. For the Legion of Boom squad, Duke Nave hit a HR also. Thanks to Jimmy Myers and Dave Halter for umpiring.
Final Standings including Pool Play Games
1- Worcester HVAC, Collegeville (4-0)
2- Depaul's B/C All-Stars, Norristown (3-3)
3- Legion of Boom, West Norriton (0-4)
MVP - Gary 'Augie' Mauger, Worcester HVAC
