King of useless information
He was a friend of mine and I know many have played while he umpired. He was a tough umpire and sometimes a wise guy, but in the cointext of things, it was all in fun and after the game, he was a good down to earth man who was a lot of fun to be with. Keep his family in your prayers. I am in shock as I knew he was sick, he had cancer, but last I heard, he was doing OK.
ROBERT E. CANFIELD of Havertown, PA. On September 14, 2009. Beloved husband of Janice (nee Cardwell) Canfield. Loving father of Lisa M. (William) Canfield Laffey and Pamela (Robert) Canfield Myer. Grandfather of Nicholas and Zachary Laffey and Robert Myer, II. Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing Saturday at 9:30 A.M. in Sacred Heart Church, Manoa and Shelbourne Rds. Havertown and to his Mass of Christian Burial following at 11 A.M. Int. SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery. In lieu of flowers an offering in Mr. Canfield's name to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America at Eastern Regional Medical Center, 1331 E. Wyoming Ave., Phila., PA. 19124 would be appreciated.
You can read some nice rememberences of him on Joe O's Millennium Message Board. I know Joe and Bard were friends with him and also Dick Mazetti, another of the real nice Delco Umpires was like a brother to him, keep these people in your prayers as they lost a close friend.
