Your work is really innovative, Dhruv, and so far none has thought of linking reason for ragging to 'sibling rivalry' before.
But this link does not appear to make much sense to me: as very small children, we seek lot of attention from our parents and other elders. I don't think people in Second year of their graduation find a similar need for attention. They rather need attention from their peers. And yes, the teachers do have another way to 'take care of' the senior students.
We can safely conclude that to the insane raggers among us - the youth of our country, pleasure is either in Harming others, or in "Marks."
Perhaps if the teachers make everyone top their class in the second year!... They may not find any need to rag, as they are already very pleased with how time's going on for them!!
Well, I've never been to the second or even first year (to which I'll soon go,) as yet. But I make a very good guess on how others think.
