As for the double airing incident, it actually happened with episode #17 and from what Nina has said in the past, was completely by accident. Japanese fans phoned to complain and the incident appeared on the *real* news for that day. It was after this incident that Sunrise finally realized just how popular YST had become.
The whole idea that #17 was shown twice to give the animators enough time to finish the next episode was started by the early American YST fans (the ones who knew about YST before the RW dub aired). They also started the whole idea that the show was only supposed to go for 20 episodes, and that in the orginal ending all the Troopers died.
