I just found this article yesterday while searching for something else:
http://www.mindspring.com/~theduffields/resume/articles/animerica/samurai_troopers.htm
It explains the locations and their importance in japanese history. The explanation is in the section near the bottom, btw, called "History and Culture". I did save a few pictures of each location (except space, obviously), I could upload them somewhere for you. But in essence, the locations are:
- Fuji-san (Mount Fuji)
- Akiyoshido cave on Akiyoshidai Plateau
- Daisetsuzan (moutains in Hokkaido)
- Naruto no Umi (the Naruto Straits, located near the Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge (bridge where Ryou and Seiji parted ways in episode 5, I would guess) that connects Japan's main island Honshuu to Shikoku)
