Nietzsche gives some details about his war service in his October 20, 1870 letter to Carl von Gersdorff; e.g. : "[....] the military hospitals near Weißenburg, and on the battlefields of Wörth, Hagenau, Lunéville, Nancy, all the way to Metz. In Ars sur Moselle, wounded soldiers were placed in our care. Since they had to be transported to Carlsruhe, we returned with them."
