Posted by Fulya Peker REQUIEM AETERNAM DEO, a play based on Nietzsche’s Thus Spoke Zarathustra. The play will follow Grotowski’s Poor Theater format. Actors should be capable of using their bodies well; able to play multiple roles; have good memorization skills; be imaginative and have an interest in philosophy. If you have acrobatic skills it is a plus, but not necessary for all roles. There may be semi-nudity, which will not be sexual. The main goal is to plant a creative performance piece by using philosophical seeds. It is not the goal to recite heavy philosophical monologues, but to embody them, give them blood and veins. Rehearsals will start in February with table work. From mid-February till the opening, there will be long and intense rehearsals. Actors should be flexible to participate in some late night or morning rehearsals. Here is a note from the director:

"Since 'god knows when', man tries to name the cosmos, the creation, the transformations, and the great flux that conquers him from every direction. Fear and pity roam around his veins and fill his body with questions. No answer comes . . . Since god is dead, and he dies eternally, what shall man do? Create new values; create fertile fields which will let the Overhuman grow. Man should stop crying out to the sky to be pitied. Man should wake up and remember that he is a part of the creation, the cosmos, and the power that he has adored for ages. He is as responsible as “god” for his own life. This is not an awakening for a national or global ideology, nor is this atheist propaganda. This is a scream for individual transformations. This is a play about humans who have a great yearning to say “I will”, who have the power of creating anew, who can endure the eternal scream. This is recognition of the eternal death of god, whose biography can be found in holy books. Only deep in somewhere, in darkness, with the guidance of our heartbeats, can we find the eternal change, eternal beyond, eternal inside. This is a play of confronting with the idea of being a part of and being apart from the sacred cosmos. This is a continuous trauma and a requiem."
