I have a bunch of his albums. I wonder why he didn't stick with the name Dorsey? I would have thought that would have taken him farther, faster, in music than Engelbert Humperdinck. I can't imagine how he came up with that one.
I found this:
After a life-threatening and career damaging bout of Tuberculosis at the start of his career, the young Gerry Dorsey, as he became known, realised that he needed a big comeback and he changed his name to Engelbert Humperdinck.
Mills, aware that the singer had been struggling for several years to become successful in the music industry, suggested a name-change to the more arresting Engelbert Humperdinck, borrowed from the 19th-century German composer of operas such as Hansel and Gretel.
While looking for this I also found that Humperdinck and Tom Jones can't stand each other and have often taken their feud public with some very harsh language for each other. From what I found it started when Humperdinck was flirting with Jones' wife in front of him and Jones didn't take kindly to it. That was in 1979 and it has only gone down hill from there.
1946 David Suchet – British actor - He is, to many, the definitive Hercule Poirot
There never has and never will be a better portrayal of Poirot, in my opinion. I have the entire Poirot series on DVD and and in the process of rewatching them all.
