During grade school, in the 1950s (boo, Jay) my clamp skates and key were my prized possessions.
1953 The Chevrolet Corvette was introduced at a car show at New York's Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. The car became a classic almost instantly. Its sporty fibreglass body didn't look like anything else on the road, and although some car buffs criticised the sportscar for being underpowered, that didn't stop Corvettes from speeding off the showroom floors
When my oldest brother bought his 1956 Vette he kept getting in to fender benders and it was costing him a lot just to keep it fixed (fiberglass.) So, he took to driving an old coupe he had. I took my driver's test in it when I was 16. Then, he let me drive it all during my 11th grade and part of my 12th until he sold it. It was red with white scoop and black rag top. He had it painted all white. I loved to drive it with the top down. Fond memories.
