Mt. Whitney backpacking

We have a 2 day permit for the first part of August. I can't find any information regarding whether we can leave our tents, sleeping bags, etc...after we camp on the trail and summit with only a daypack, picking up our gear on the way back down? Do we have to carry everything with us to the summit?
