I heard that for him it's basically no points as he was not a regular and only in 3 races. Same deal with my buddy Joey Gase. Not show up in the points. So not sure how they handle this. However, I do feel NASCAR made the right call. |
My daughter was there with a friend in Sky Suites on business and they had to keep track of weather and etc. In fact they had to put out more money to open suite back up for Sunday, extra cost. People had flights to catch in afternoon and no hotel to stay in. Sure that was the same with many race fans and others, including our military on hand.
As for how the race ended, I'm happy with the calls made based on the rules and the weather. After a fan died from lightening at Bristol a few yes ago this rule was put in place. Glad it was, safety of fans and crew is important.
As frr Kurt, thinking he was screwed by NASCAR...not true. His crew chief made the call to pit. Unfortunately, after several had hit pit road the lightening strike 7.4 miles from track. 8 miles out is the rule so they were doing what was in the rules. Just unfortunate he got caught in the pits and the red flag. Happy for Haley getting his first cup win. He earned it by his crew chief making a good call to stay out. What did they have to lose, noting but everything to gain! It's not the first time rain determined a race winner and won't be the last.
My daughter and her friend got their flight out of Daytona at 6 pm but were stranded in Charlotte Airport for 8 hours, plane maintenance. Delayed twice for that then at 3 am this morning they cancelled the flight. SO, my daughter and friend took a LYFT from Charlotte to Raleigh only getting home at 5:45 am this morning and having to work today.
They also had a 4 hour delay leaving Charlotte (plane change from RDU to Charlotte then to Daytona) to Daytona as well. Sounds like Charlotte Airport is having lots of plane issues. Yes, some was delayed due to weather going down, planes grounded. Just a crazy weekend but she had the time of her life, experiencing Sky Suite treatment, VIP everything and racing. She had me on texting as her teacher almost 24/7 asking about drivers, how things worked, the rules and such. I lived this race through them....fun!
