Gallagher was inside 3319 Laurel Avenue when several gunshots were fired. She was injured and transported by a rescue squad to Creighton University Medical Center in critical condition but she is expected to recover. The gunshots surprised a neighbor whose home was also hit by the spray of bullets. "I heard at least 20," she said. "They sounded like they was all going off at the same time. It was like boom, boom, boom, boom, boom -- like everybody was shooting at the same time." The woman, who did not want to be identified, says her family was sound asleep when the shots started hitting their home. Her house was hit by five or six bullets but those bullets first went in one side of her neighbor's house and out the other. The shooter or shooters, standing on top of a small hill across the street, used a neighbor's SUV as cover and opened fire. At least two shots hit the SUV.
Omaha Police are investigating a shooting that happened around midnight near 33rd and Laurel. The victim, identified as Roseanne Gallagher, was shot in the head but officials say that she is expected to survive.
