The first came on Saturday, around 4 a.m. when a teenager was stopped for carrying alcohol. Police say he dropped a sawed-off shotgun as he tried to run away. At almost the same time, several miles south, a suspect at 15th and Dorcas was arrested for possession of a stolen gun. Back in North Omaha on Sunday morning, police stopped a car at 18th and Binney for running a stop sign. Inside the car they found a convicted felon and a gun. That incident was of special concern to Leslie McDougald who lives right at that corner with nieces in the house and families all around. McDougald says, "I worry about them. Not only them, but other kids as well. I look at their kids like my own." Another incident happened at 30th and Laurel. Police stopped a car with a broken tail light and someone got out of the car running. Behind him, police found a gun on the ground. Police think that a 17-year-old who reported being hit in a Thursday night drive-by shooting actually shot himself when the gun went off in his pocket. In another incident over the weekend, someone fired a gun during a party. It happened at 38th and Fowler around 1:20 Sunday morning. Police found bullet holes in the house and a gun nearby. No one was hurt and no arrests have been made.
Guns are being fired in the metro again. Incident reports were on the upswing over the past few days.
