The bus driver, Edward Rypkerna, told police he saw a knife in the man's pocket. ----------------------------- OMAHA, Neb. -- Harold Coates is nursing a face full of bruises after he said he was one of the victims of a burglary spree in Omaha Wednesday night. Omaha police said an officer shot and killed Robert Ventry, 20, as he was in the middle of a spree of burglaries, vandalism and assault down Camden Avenue Wednesday evening. Coates, 59, said he met Ventry face to face. "This gentleman comes to the back door and says, 'I need help! I need help!'" Coates said. "I let him in. He stood a few seconds, went nuts, took all of his clothes off, threw them out the back door, laid on his stomach, and put his hands over his head. He got up, started throwing stuff through the window, came in here. He and I were fighting. He just ransacked everything, kept throwing things around, breaking everything." Coates said Ventry hit him repeatedly with a frying pan and then attacked his 81-year-old mother, who now has a black eye. Harold Dennis lives down the street from Coates. He has broken windows in his home, and there is blood on window ledges and his fence. Ventry's sister told KETV NewsWatch 7 that her brother had a history of using PCP, and she believes he was under the influence on Wednesday night. Police will perform an autopsy. One Camden Avenue neighbor said he feels for Ventry's family but said he felt that officers did what they had to do to protect another victim. ------------------------
