Pina, Jr., was found early Sunday morning behind an auto repair shop at 13th and Z which his father owns. He lived in an apartment above the shop. Investigators found Pina's body at 3:45 Sunday morning. Police closed off an entire block around 13th and Z as they investigated. Pina was pronounced dead at the scene but police would not say how he died. They have, however, called this a shooting investigation. Pina's father, Salvador M. Pina, Sr., was recognized personally by President Bush during his visit to Omaha in June 2006 where he spoke about his immigration reform package. The elder Pina met with the President and other small business owners at the Juan Diego Center in South Omaha. The President praised Pina for being a legal immigration success story. Pina first came to the United States legally 18 years ago as a migrant worker. In Omaha he sought a loan from the Juan Diego Center run by Catholic Charities to help build his dream of owning his own business. Shortly after the President recognized Pina in his speech, Pina had a death threat phoned into his business. No one was arrested in the case.
Authorities are investigating the overnight shooting death of a young Omaha man whose father was recognized by President Bush last year.
