Twenty-year-old Ernesto Alvarado was shot four times. Witnesses say they heard at least six shots Saturday afternoon. When the shooting stopped, they saw Alvarado on the ground. He was critically injured and still in surgery Saturday night. By Sunday his condition was upgraded to serious. ------------------------------------- An Omaha man is accused of a string of charges including assaulting a police officer after a scuffle during a Friday night traffic stop. The incident happened around 6:30 at 29th and St. Mary's Avenue where police pulled a vehicle over for a headlight violation. The driver of that vehicle, identified as 22-year-old Lora Burt, was arrested on a misdemeanor warrant and placed in the police cruiser. Authorities say that the vehicle passenger, 32-year-old Ronald J. Carter, got out of the car, approached the police cruiser and began demanding Burt's car keys. Officers told him to back away but he didn't comply. Investigators say that during the course of the resulting confrontation Carter assaulted one of the officers and was subdued by a Taser during the scuffle. ---------------------------------
Omaha Police are investigating a drive-by shooting that sent a juvenile to the hospital Sunday afternoon. It happened around 1:30 in the 5600 block of North 29th Street.
