Posted by Mary on 10/23/2006, 5:57 pm Security cameras got a good look at the two suspects, who entered the TierOne Bank at 3201 West Broadway at about 10 o'clock Monday morning. Authorities believe these are the same two men who robbed the bank in mid-July. The man wearing the gray hooded sweatshirt and holding a handgun is described as being about 5-foot-10 and heavy set. The other man, who was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, is believed to be about 5-foot-8 and lighter, weighing between 150 and 170 pounds. Both men appeared to be in their late 20s. Police believe they were driving a white, four-door vehicle. Authorities consider both men to be armed and dangerous. ---------------------------- Authorities are looking into a pair of motel robberies that happened early Monday morning. In both cases the victims provided similar descriptions of the suspect. Officers were first called to the Super 8 Motel at 116th and West Dodge Road at about 2:45 a.m. An employee there told police that he was in the office and heard a noise up front. He says he then found the robber behind the counter and the man demanded money. The suspect fled with an undetermined amount of money and the employee's laptop computer. Less than an hour later, at 3:25 a.m., police received another robbery call. This once came from the Comfort Inn at 87th and West Dodge. Again, an employee reported that the robber was armed with a gun and demanded money from the cash drawers. "He told her to 'open up this door,'" said Comfort Inn general manager Laurie Lesley, "and to open the cash drawer, which she did, and then he told her to turn around." The man then grabbed an undetermined amount of money and ran out the back door. ---------------------------------------- Omaha police are investigating a shooting that critically injured a man Sunday night. The victim is expected to survive. Officers were called to 2023 North 18th Street shortly after 7:30 p.m. Sunday where gunshots had been reported in an apartment there. When police arrived, they were told that 20-year-old Kevin Jennings had been shot several times and was transported to the hospital by private vehicle. ------------------------------------ 68-year-old Omaha man was sitting in his car outside a grocery store early Sunday when another man approached him demanding money. Moments later, the attempted thief left the scene without the gun he was carrying, and without Earnest Coleman's money. Coleman says he was just waiting for friends who were inside the Hy-Vee near 35th and "L" Streets when the man jumped into the passenger seat of his car. "He snatched my door open and jumped in and told me to give him my money," Coleman said. But the 68-year-old was not ready to give up anything. He reached for the thief and a fight started. Coleman remembers being surprised when he grabbed the young man's arm. "I felt the gun and I just pushed his arm up towards him, and I guess I had too much strength for him, so he just let it go. He hit me and I hit him," Coleman said. As the two men struggled in the car, another man approached Coleman's window. "I took the gun, then a guy came up to the driver's side and hit me," Coleman said. "I reckon I got him. I pulled him in there too, and the guy was in the car yelling, 'He got my gun,' so they took off running." Coleman says he doesn't know if the young men learned their lesson, but he hopes he sent a strong enough message.
Council Bluffs Police and the FBI believe two bank robbers struck the same Council Bluffs bank for the second time in three months, the latest incident happening Monday morning.
