A dear friend, Patricia "Pat" Smith Shurbet, Class of '58, passed away October 10 at her home near Edna, TX after a two-year illness from cancer. Pat's mother, the late June Smith Wesner, taught music in McCamey Elementary School for many years. Her step-father, the late Ernest "Ernie" Wesner, was also a long-time resident of McCamey. Pat is survived by a daughter, Donna Kessler and husband, Chris of Victoria, a son, Justin Gray and wife, Tammy of Huntsville, several grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, a brother, Dr. Carl Smith, Class of '56 and sister-in-law, Sue Spurlock Smith, Class of '57, of Brownfield, several nieces and nephews. She was dearly loved by all. Pat graduated from Sul Ross University and became a teacher. After her children finished school, she went to Texas Tech and received a degree in mechanical engineering. Pat worked in that field until her retirement. After retiring, she spent her time on a wide range of interests. First and foremost was always her family. She loved working outdoors with horses and with machinery. Pat loved travel and cruises and had a very knowledgeable interest in collecting cut-glass and antiques. She will be greatly missed by all her friends and family.
