Despite their, at time annoyingly, cautious approach, pretty much the entire board are Stockport County fans and don't want to be at this level next season, or even this one to be frank. |
That small profit could be the impetus to increase spending so we get into the playoffs this season (only a place, a goal, a point more required based on last season) and/or the impetus to move to a full-time squad/managerial set-up next season (regardless of division) both of which will help us progress up the leagues.
I think it's spurious to claim people will be satisfied with outside the playoffs and a small profit.
They were satisfied with it last season on the basis that the previous season we'd come nowhere near the playoffs and had made a loss - so it was rightly seen as progress. Not as fast as any of us would like, but progress.
Get into the playoffs (or above?!) this season and again it will represent progress. But get into the playoffs lose 200k, don't go up, that could start to put us into dodgy territory again.
It's the unfortunate, unpalatable truth of what we have to do, in the face of a lack of investment (for whatever the reasons) by the board.
It's na´ve to think that if we're still posting 35k profit and finishing 8th at this level in 2 or 3 years time that everyone will be placidly happy-clappy about it. There will rightly be much unrest I hope. Damn it, I hope people are pissed off and say so in as many words if we fail to at least make the playoffs this season.
We will not run,
And we will not hide,
No we will not give up,
We will survive!
