There are two things here. |
1. Sending money to bad governments. I agree. But there are humanitarian organisation which, though not always perfect, give far better value for money.
2. Sending food or clothing. This is more problematic as I know from the charity that I run. The difficulties and dangers of sending packing cases (and it is something that is often suggested to us) outweigh any advantages. On our visits to the country, we take items in our baggage.
Otherwise, it is far more cost effective to send funds and buy goods on the spot.
We do that to pay for children's education too.
While we were in India last year, we spent three days with a charity that works directly in the villages - educating, working with women's groups, sorting out water and sanitation problems. They work IN the community. You cannot beat that approach.
