I’m wondering if it could be the hybrid pitch at EP using the plastic string stuff weaved into the pitch to hold the surface together. Doesn’t seem much give in it. May even be the same at Carrington. I know other clubs use it, but also I have heard of players refusing to train on the plastic pitches such as Hyde. because they reckon it shortens careers because it’s bad for knee joints etc. That one reason I think the the Players Union made sure that 3G pitches, or whatever they are called, are not allowed in the EFL
