I think it was in 1973 (when I was 10) when I first saw Mike Yarwood on telly. When I found out he was from God's own town, it made me immensely proud; it felt as if Stockport was on the national stage.
Those of us around my age (60) or older will fondly remember his show. Lots of short sketches showcasing his talent of 'taking off' famous people, with the finale being a quickfire mixture of impressions, after which he would announce "And this is me!" (which was the title of his autobiography), when he would sing (better than a lot of people gave him credit for).
He would sign off by saying "Good night and God bless." My wish to you, Mike. And thanks for making Stopfordians proud of one of their own.
