As Hedgie mentioned a deserved win , three vital points , especially as Carlisle , Stevenage also won , keeps us in the mix . It was more of a workmanlike win , was not pretty to watch at times , thought Croasdale put a good shift in , bit concerned about Horsfall injured , maybe just turned over his ankle and be ok soon , however Johno did a great job as cover .
The coach trip down and back was first class under the calm authority of Louis . We were all fairly hopeful of getting a result on the way down . At our service stop we met some Tranmere fans and I explained to them that at their match , Gillingham are not be be feared as they offered nothing of note at Edgeley Park recently . What do I know then after their two nil loss !
As we approached the Colchester ground it looked quite impressive , four large stands , one fan commented it was yet another “ Lego” construction in its out of town location .
We would never want Stockport County’s base to be moved like this to say the outskirts of Portwood or Poynton . Grounds like Leyton Orient , Mansfield , ourselves , Newport , Crewe are all in the heart of the community , give that community feel to it . I can’t see Colchester ever attracting big crowds there as it is in the middle of nowhere , and although it has a Championship look about it there was virtually no atmosphere there at the match .
The fans zone was good , the food and drink as with virtually all clubs was poor quality and woefully expensive . The free programmes was a good offer and their staff and stewards seemed friendly .
The great win though made the long journey home enjoyable and there was plenty of singing going on . Some superb impressions of Freddie Mercury , Abba , John Denver to be heard . There was an attempt to sing ‘ Breakfast at Tiffany’s “ but this song fizzled out which was disappointing !
So we move on , the team should have a bit more confidence and I think we play better against better opposition so I see no reason why we cannot see off Mansfield Town this Saturday .
